The new piano has arrived and is wonderful, if huge, both it's physical presence and the sound. Having practiced for the last year mostly on a digital it is like getting out of a clapped out Fiesta into the driving seat of a DB9 (which I have done once!).

Not that the digital is being consigned to history: After 11 p.m. and before 7.30 a.m. (or when everyones awake at weekends) i.e. often, it will still be called into service.

Still - a grand piano!! in my house!!! Hooraaaay!!!

I am very happy for you!

(and a bit miserable for myself because

1. I won't be back in the UK to show you how it ought to be played smile.gif for at least another 6 weeks,

2. It will be six months or more before I either:

a. Move permanently to the Netherlands, get a house here, and install a GP in it, or
b. Return to the UK, build a music studio in the garden and put one there
)

Notes on games 4 and 5 to follow by eMail

Robodoc, why are you posting on here? You should be PLAYING YOUR NEW PIANO - it's what I did all afternoon when mine arrived.

Of course, if you're looking for someone to play it for you.... wink.gif

piano.gif <-- frantically practising for this afternoon's lesson.

Maybe it is being tuned and he can't get at it yet. Congratulations Robodoc. Will you be having a piano warming party?
Maizie
And when do we get to see a photo of it?!

It must be immensely pleasing...I bet you spend the time you aren't playing it just looking at it biggrin.gif

Ah, good.
I can go home now. Have fun.

Have a wonderful time with your grand, Robodoc. I'm sure it will have been worth the wait. smile.gif

So, what was the first piece you played on The New Piano? I was heartbroken when my son wanted to be the first to play mine, and Mary Had a Little Lamb christened it! It seemed so unfair!
freda_bloogs
I remember the first thing I played when I got my new piano (digital, but can't complain smile.gif) - Bohemian Rhapsody!

What did you choose, Robodoc? Something far classier than me, I'm sure! Haha! biggrin.gif

Congratulations. Enjoy++!

So, what was the first piece you played on The New Piano?

Sorry for the anticlimax but the first thing I played on it after delivery was a B major scale in octaves, 4 octaves, legato, crescendo at the top and diminuendo at the bottom!

The first piece I played on it after delivery was the same as the first thing I ever played on it in the shop: Gershwin, Lisa smile.gif

I'll have three of those, please.

Enjoy the Piano!!!

Well, you've had it about a week now. Is it worn out yet? And are you still v. v. pleased with it?

Not worn out, but one or two irritating developments that are almost certainly just a result of the move and "settling in" - nothing major though and the technician will come at 8 weeks for a service/tune by which time we/they expect more problems to have emerged.

Still pleased with it!
