hi everyone!
im returning to flute playing after about 10 years + of not playing (im nearly 25 now! ohmy.gif )
i've always played on school flutes or second hand and this time im hoping to buy my own flute that will last me a little while.

i know i should go into shops and try lots but i cant remember how to play!! i intend to begin lessons but would prefer to buy my own and have a read through some how to play books and get used to reading music again (with the help of my boyfriend) rather than wasting a few lessons mastering the basics again. (im hoping it will all come rushing back to me!)

i've looked at the above flute on the net and have seen many positive remarks about it, has anyone got any really negative comments about it? or bad experiences?

i dont have the money to buy a really expensive flute and as a student nurse dont have time to think about reaching high grades again just yet, i just want to give it a go again and see how i get on.

any ideas most welcome, thanks!! biggrin.gif

These are the Mk111 in the 10x series - in my opinion great starter flutes, reliable and with a good tone- much better than a lot of the other starter flutes, and good up to about grade 5-6 standard. Definately the flute I encourage new pupils to buy. So sorry, nothing negative to say!

yamahas also make good starter flutes also but are on the more pricey side, (Although not a fave of mine) People seem to like them because the mechanism is robust and to upgrade only needs a change of head joint. As you have already played before your progress maybe quite quick and so you may quickly outgrow this flute. What about a secondhand step up flute?

yeah, i've been looking at the yamaha's too, but i'd be looking at about another £100 i think. im not sure if there is a particular reason for the higher expense or could it be for the name?

someone told me that you can use the yamaha head joints on other makes, not sure how true that is.

thanks

If you get a Yamaha make sure it is the Japanese one, which is of much higher quality than the ones I think were made in China.

There have been quite a few problems with recent Yamahas, now that they are made in China (or so I have been led to believe). Best to try out a few before you decide.
