Have just accompanied the children for their grade 2 and 3 violin exams, and really enjoyed doing it.( made some mistakes but kept going.) Am now thinking of doing the piano accompanying exams offered by Trinity Guildhall, has anyone else done these. I play Grade 7or 8 (on a good day!!) piano, and am thinking of starting the accompanying exams with Grade 5.
Love to hear if anyone else is doing this

I did grade 5 piano accompanying last November.
This was 18 months after my grade 8 piano and it took some time to get everything learned.
Both myself and my teacher thought that it's harder that a grade 5 solo piano exam. My teacher even said 'If that's grade 5 I don't want to know what grade 8 is like!' ohmy.gif
It was worth doing though for me by the time the exam came round I'd probably had the benefit from the preparation and wasn't so sure about the benefits of actually taking the exam.
My soloist enjoyed the experience of being in the accompanist position for an exam; it was interesting for a woodwind player to be acting in that capacity. smile.gif

Always check the level of accompaniment before agreeing. Some of the higher grades can have fiendishly difficult piano parts - I had to accompany a Finzi clarinet piece last year for a grade 6 clarinetist and it was truly horrible! THe piano parts are often much more difficult than the accompanied instrument. I often find that non-pianist teachers don't always assess the piano part either.
