hello_cello
i shall be (hopefully) having a music room when our house is finished done, i dont have the dimensions of the room, but it might be a bedroom, or a study... so i dont know for sure if its my room.. yet.
Anyways, i just want some ideas y'know what to have in it. Il probably have a digital piano in there, are some other stuff, the piano will be in the hall way, untill we get a new one, then maybe it will go in the music room..

But also, it might be interesting to see what other peoples are like (for me and other people who need to get out more:P)

As a string player I find it useful to have a large mirror on one wall. I imagine it would be good for other instruments, too. And of course you need lots of shelves for music.

I love having a dedicated room for practising, even if it does have to double as a bicycle repair workshop!

I have a long wall that is full of shelves. I bought a small unit from a local flatpack store and then added to it from good old ebay. For another £10 I now have about fourteen feet of bookshelves. I keep my text books there and my cd collection, the cd player, loads of sheet music in canvas boxes, the percussion and puppet boxes there, some assorted instruments and choir files of concerts past and present. You wil need decent storage for your music. I have a large mirror too which I consider essential for the singers including myself. The floor is tiled so that it doesn't really show the dirt and it gets swept most days. You will also need good lighting. I have wall lights and a piano lamp. A couple of chairs for consort playing would be useful and a decent music stand too. How nice to be able to plan your own music room. smile.gif

It's so nice to have a music room. I'm green with envy... My "music room" is also my living room and dining room and sometimes guest bedroom laugh.gif

My harp teacher's music room opens out to the garden. There's a harp in the middle (with its stool and a music stand), another harp in the corner, an upright piano to one wall, small desk near the piano, low bookshelves (full of books!) lining another wall, and a set of sofa.

We have what is called "the music room" but it isnt exactly that. My brother is always in there with his game console and I hardly get to practice in there, normally resorting to my bedroom. THe only thing he cant get away form is the piano which drives him up the wall biggrin.gif He's even tried to stop me having lessons in there ohmy.gif

I would love to have my own music room. Itd have shelves all along one wall, a big open space in the middle for group playing with a piano and a sofa or two for people to listen and watch biggrin.gif

My 'music room' is a very thin annex off from the kitchen (I think it was described as a dining room but I can't imagine there would be room for a table and chairs!) which contains my trusty Roland electric piano, assorted string instruments and two very large book cases full of recorder or violin/viola sheet music. There is a reasonable sized mirror on one wall and a small window on the other but the lighting isn't that good. When I'm playing on my own I tend to drift into the kitchen but it is just big enough to teach in... At least it is as far from our neighbours walls as possible... biggrin.gif

All other musical instruments, sheet music, books etc are distributed fairly randomly around the house - often ending up in my wardrobe... ph34r.gif

When I have tidyied my music room, I shall take a photo of it, load it into photobucket and post it.

It's a rectangular room, with a desk, and easy chair, an all-in-one CD/Cassette/Radio thingy. A Piano at one end. A coconut palm. Shelving for books, Shelving for music and my business papers. A permanently assembled music stand. A managery of instruments. A solid wood floor, well planned lighting.

It's painted in Pebble stone, with a feature wall behind the piano in Teal tension, and ther are neutralish striped curtains.

It is designed to be a music room, come my office, come general chill out zone. The only quirky feature is the kids rocking horse, that I refuse to get rid of.

It isn't quite complete as I havn't sorted out the pictures and certificates on the wall yet.

It's very calming and tasteful.

I also want a mirror.

I don't have the wall-space for that... dry.gif

Our 'playroom' (was for me and my brother, now my sister's) has sort of been converted into a music room, as the piano, other instruments and music are kept there. The hymn books however often end up by the computer or on my desk in my bedroom, and when we have visitors on teh sofa-bed in the music room, I take my clarinet and basson upstairs. rolleyes.gif Not that they get much more practice...

Vitula, I see that today you are dedicated to disinterring interesting old threads!

I don't have a picture but I like willobie's idea of a space near the kitchen...

I live in a small townhouse with two spare bedrooms, one now occupied by my part-time flatmate (also an oboist) and the other was a library/musicroom so I could hide away all my creative untidiness.

I lent the digital piano out before Christmas and when it came back it just got left in the hall/dining room space next to my semi open plan kitchen - and I found out that this is much more useful! Now I can take more advantage of those times when I just need to keep half an eye on the stove... Even though I love playing, getting started when I'm feeling a bit tired after work is sometimes a challenge but somehow it's much easer with oboe, piano and music to hand instead of having to heave myself upstairs...

Of course, any idea of a beautiful minimalist aesthetic to my downstairs living area has gone right out the window.

Indeed, I've missed so much, and why start a new one when the old ones will do laugh.gif laugh.gif

I have my own room, I'm lucky we live in a four bedroom house and there is only my husband and I. My 'playroom' is dedicated to my love of craft, and also my music. I have a lovely 'day bed' in there too, so its a nice place to relax.
