And, sorry, finally, The progression chords. I know 2 and 6 are always minor. but i'm realy confused with how you recognise first inversions, second inversions etc! and coudl someone remind me about teh sequence of the different cadences. e.g- interrupted- 5 to 6

Good Luck for tomorrow smile.gif

I'm afraid i can't give much advice for calming nerves...

Different forms are: Binary (AB), Ternary (ABA), Rondo (ABACA), sonata rondo (ABACABA), then if it has a coda, whether its a fugue or dance or something special.

Sight singing...just go for it, as soon as i start thinking about it too hard, i go wrong...

Chords:
major key: I, Vc, Ib, IV, V, V7, Ic, Vb and I are major; II, IIb and VI are minor.

minor key: Vc, V, VI and Vb are major; I, Ib, IV, and IC are minor; II and IIb are diminished.

you recognise the inversions by 'shape' of the base. So if you have an imperfect cadence where the base stays the same, its probably Ic-V, etc

Cadences are perfect: V (or V7)-I
imperfect: I-V, II-V, IV-V or Ic-V
Plagal: IV-I
Interupted: V-VI

My nerve calming tips..
- practice visualising yourself making a fantastic performance
- practice walking into the room and standing in the mannor of a Sheakspearean actor
- tell yourself how lucky the examiner is to get the opportunity to hear you (they rarely hear the higher grades in anything)
- and whenever you think about your exam force yourself to make a big smile and say "Wow!" because you're sooo lucky to have come this far, & to be prepared for and have entered an exam at this level is just wonderful. smile.gif

Also, (sorry for all the questions!) does anyone have any tips for modulation?? what is V7?? and you talked about imperfect being 1c-5 is the note in the bass stayed that same. Have you got any others like that?? the chors confuse me the most by far!!!

I resorted to guessing the the modulations, so wont try and help you there.

V7 (7 should be superscript) is a V chord with an added seventh, so sounds richer than plain V.

There's no other obvious ones, but if you work out the degree of the scale that the bass is and the tonality, you can figure out the chords:

major key:
1st or 8th degree: I (maj)
2nd : II (min) or Vc (maj)
3rd: Ib (maj)
4th: IV (maj) or IIb (min)
5th: V (maj), V7 (major with extra 7th) or Ic (maj)
6th: VI (min)
7th: Vb (maj)

minor key:
1st/8th: I (min)
2nd: II (dim) or Vc (maj)
3rd: Ib (min)
4th: IV (min) or IIb (dim)
5th: V (maj) or Ic (min)
6th: VI (maj)
7th: Vb (maj)

NOTE: III and VII aren't used.

Hopefully thats useful smile.gif
