My Mother has got it into her head that there is currently a massive, world wide shortage of lemons. She keeps panic buying them, and told me that I had to take extra care to tell everyone in the woodwind section who fortunate they were to have lemon drizzle cake (which I made due to there being so many lemons in the fruit bowl) in this time of crisis.
Has anyone else noticed, or is it just her imagination?

This is the way panic buying occurs.
I've not noticed...but am just popping out to get some lemons before they sell out

I hope not - I start every day with a thick slice of lemon in hot water .
( I don't recommend it btw - just in case everyone else thinks of doing the same...)

Persuade your Mum to take a holiday in Limone, that should cure her, but don't send her to our Camera Club as everyone seems to go there and I'm sick of pictures of the place.

Is this joining the rice shortage, Waitrose's pasta shortage and the cocoa shortage then?

Isn't there a lentil shortage too?

No lemons means no Strawberry jam! Now that would be a travesty!

Then we'll all have to have poor man's strawberry jam - with gooseberries in instead of lemon

What's the point in panic buying something that only lasts a few weeks before it degrades ?
Wouldn't it be a better idea to buy lemon juice (or go to the garden centre and buy some lemon trees ?)

She definately did not source this particular story from The Mirror, apparantly it was on the news on BBC Radio 2. I'm not sure how she heard it and I didn't, because she's at work during the day, and I have started my summer holidays so listen to the radio most of the time... Maybe she dreamt it.

They don't tend to go mouldy like other fruit, they just go dry, so while you may not be able to use the rind, the juice is still ok.
I like lemon curd, so may have to make a few jars...
