Lizzy violin
Hi there,

My name's Liz. I started playing the violin in January and have recently sat my grade 5 theory exam (waiting for results).

I'm actually 32 but say old as, having just sat a theory exam I was definitely the oldest one sitting an exam and it made me feel ancient! (As does having a violin teacher younger than me)

I did grade 5 clarinet while at school but couldn't go any further due to lack of theory grade five and no money or time for tuition.

Anyway I'm really enjoying the violin, it's so much easier starting an instrument when you can already read music and you have no other home work. I'm already quite happily playing the grade 3 syllabus. I hope next year to be able to play electric violin in my electropop duo (I sing at the moment, sure I can do a bit of both, though not at the same time).

So that's me. Hi to all and I'd be especially interested to hear from any adult string learners in the Birmingham area.

Hello Liz, and welcome to the forums.

Good to see that you've started to have a look round, I hope you'll find the Viva Strings section and Adult Learners (where claiming that you are old at the age of 32 will get you advised to the contrary wink.gif )

I'm also an adult string learner, but not in Birmingham. There are a fair few of us about the country, so someone is likely to show up sooner or later.....

Cheers

Do have a good look round the Adult Learner's area for some interesting threads, and look at the forum events sub-forum for some playing events you may be interested in. smile.gif

Hope you have a good time here!

I have and will be spending a lot of time in Birmingham as I am a student at the Conservatoire, so if you ever want someone to play with PM me.

Ben again.

Welcome!

I think its's admirable starting violin now, busy as you must be! I started painting around that age ("real" paint too expensive when younger!), and often think that it would have been a lot harder 10-15 years later. Good luck!
