My sax teacher thinks that i am capable of taking grade 6 but i don't! I can play the gr 5 pieces out of the book (Concert Repertoire for Soprano/Tenor Sax) no problem but grade 6 is a big jump. I know that there are technical difficulties in grade 6 that are a lot different from the other grades and i have to take grade 5 clarinet, and my GCSE's. I will simply not have time to learn the pieces well enough and pass the exam with a good mark.
The Tenor Sax is my only my second instrument anyway (after the clarinet) and i want at least one exam under my belt to prove to universities etc that i can play it and i think that it should be grade 5.
What do you think??

Hi. I play both the sax and the clarinet and I think that its up to you which exam you take. Your teacher wouldnt have suggested grade 6 if he didnt feel that you could do it. It would be good to challenge yourself, however if you feel more comfortable doing grade 5 then, trust your instincts!!

Grade 5 will get you zero ucas points for uni but grades 6-8 do carry ucas points.

Well, my teacher kept trying to make me do an exam when I didn't want to. In the end, I agreed to take the exam and passed with merit! Your teacher wouldn't have suggested you do grade 6 if he didn't think you could do it!
