Is it any great benefit to have a higher theory grade than 5?

I am studying for Grade 6 (hopefully higher than grade 6) but we will see how it goes.

Im finding it hard to study as my auditions start in november and I have a few of them. (it doesn't help either that all establishments hve different audition material!!!! blink.gif )

Please help me...

If it has no substantial benefit, I do not want to overload my music sessions in my day, I am already doing around 5-6 hours of practicle a day.

Hiya Micky, it all depends on what academic music qualifications you have and what kind of establishment you are hoping to study at.

For example I am a current student at Surrey University and I hold music A level and Grade 8 practical, if I hadn't had the music A level I wouldn't have been accepted onto the course unless I held grade 7 or higher in music theory. This is somewhat different to the requirements of a music college/conservatoire.

If you are currently studying for your music a level I wouldn't worry so much about the theory as you'll be covering a lot of it with the a level.

Good luck with the auditions

I'm in Scotland, and just sat my Advanced Higher Music. That is the highest I can do in school. I am applying to the RSAMD (as well as others)

I don't think it is a pre-requisite but would imagine that in places as competitive as the RSAMD it would strengthen your application. smile.gif

Cool, I want to go to the RSAMD too!! (In a few years anyway!!)

I'm goin to do the MEd with Hounors Course =)!! It's taught jointly with Glasgow University, so it sounds good =P

I was thinking of doing the Bed course too, but I decided to do the Bmus as I wanted to focus more on performance. Also I don't think I will be going into class teaching when graduate.

so when will you be going then?

I meant BEd not bed biggrin.gif
