My piano teacher bought me this to learn some pieces from as she says I need to be able to play lots of G7 standard material before taking the exam (I took G6 in Spring.) Fine, but I'm finding all of it really hard! Any tips on a good piece to start with? The only two I can really do are Solfeggietto and Fur Elise, which I learnt ages ago before I got the book. Last year after G5 I learnt Rondo Alla Turca easily and really enjoyed it but I'm struggling to find anything this time round... Thanks smile.gif

This is an absolutely fantastic collection. My teacher used it a lot to build up my repertoire before I took Grade 6. Just to give you an idea, I worked on the following over two years or so (one at a time, not all at once!)

Le Coucou - Daquin
Prelude in F - Bach
Fantasia in D minor - Mozart
Sonata in C - Mozart
The three Chopin preludes
Arietta - Grieg
Butterfly- Grieg
Waltz Op.39, no.3 - Brahms
To a Wild Rose - Macdowell
Nimrod (Enigma Variations) - Elgar

The brilliant thing about the book is that all the pieces (except the Granados and Rachmaninoff) are between Grades 5 and 8. Try one of the shorter pieces to start with, and you should be able go from there. Failing that, get your teacher to suggest one.
