I'm playing this piece in my diploma a week tomorrow and the darn French publishers won't give me permission to copy it just for the exam purpose, does anyone have a copy of the piano part of the SAX one that they could send?!

Hi,

I have the music - you could borrow it if you want. Yes, it is the saxophone version and I have both the sax and the piano parts. If you PM me we could sort something out.

Pierne died in 1937 so is out of copyright. Is the edition you have a new one which is still in copyright? If it isn't, then you won't need permission. It's a bit strange that they would withold permission. What did they actually say?

I have a copy too Nat if you want it! x

It's been transcribed by Marcel Mule though, so does that mean it is copyrighted? I didn't get much out of them, couldn't really understand them and apparantly lots of people were on holiday. I was put through to someone who was used as an English translator and she said that although no-one was there she could definitely tell me that I couldn't photocopy it...

The French are a particular nuisance in this. We have the same problem with the Messager; although he died in 1929, they put out a "new" edition to keep the copyright going - the music has "photocopie interdite" all over it. Fortunately, son's teacher has lent her copy. Does your teacher not have a copy, Scaramouche?

Seems our Marcel died in 2001 so I believe his arrangement is therefore copyright until the end of 2071. Sounds to me like they just misunderstood your request. Do you have a French speaking friend who could ring up and intercede on your behalf?
