Just need to let off steam dry.gif

I keep making errors this week that are beginning to cost me a lot of money.
First I got our floor cleaner waterlogged (I won't say how!) and it has been sent off for repair today by courier. It will likely cost £70 + or be a write off!

This afternoon I forgot, for the first time ever, to go to the hairdresser. £20 cancellation fee I expect.

A few months ago I crashed a plate into our oven door and smashed it to pieces - cost £995!!!

I need a holiday!!!!!!

Can anyone beat my record?

What? £995 for an oven door fragile enough to be smashed by a mere plate rolleyes.gif
I'd have bought a cheaper and tougher oven.

I don't want to be pessimistic but by my reckoning you've still got another disaster to go before you break the cycle (of 3; these things go in 3s I have found). Perhaps there is another glitzch that you haven't mentioned here? The oven door thing was months ago and doesn't really count for the purposes of this week, infuriating as I'm sure it was.

The floor cleaner has me intrigued too. Was it an act of monumental stupidity like when I cleared the plughole in the bath by sticking the nozzle of the hoover over it, thereby making the bag go all soggy? ph34r.gif

Yes, you definitely need a holiday. Just step away from the piano...

I paid £400 for my oven. Was your oven door made out of Bulgari Crystal?

My most expensive mistake was buying a flat with an old flame. I put all the money in and by the time we split up, they managed to take a fair chunk of the equity sad.gif Moral of the story: ask your solicitor about "tenants in common" agreements...

Tougher but not cheaper unfortunately!

I think it was just glass but painted white around the edges making it difficult to tell.
I had a similar experience about 25 years ago - when I was lumbered with a £1000 in rent. At least I didn't lose out on equity like you.

I think I actually need some more time to just play the piano smile.gif Holidays all booked anyway - looking forward to it!

Thanks everyone for replying smile.gif I was feeling a bit low - much better now biggrin.gif

Wow, that's an expensive plate! Oh - you mean the oven door smashed...

Seriously though, I'm no expert but I wouldn't be surprised if that was covered by your contents insurance if your policy includes 'Accidental Damage'. Worth a look, I'd've thought.

My Mum's month old Honda Civic drove itself into a tree causing £2500 worth of damage and requiring the reconstruction of most of the rest of the car. It had about 1000 miles on the clock! Apparntly it's a common fault in modern cars which have all round disk brakes which expand when heated and then cool down, contract and release. Needless to say, Honda hasn't taken the blame!

Yes thanks - I checked with insurance at the time - only door covered (like for like) - didn't want glass again.
You're going to love this - I have just typed in a search for the thread which has the story of my smashed oven and the results came back as a long list of threads on Beethoven laugh.gif laugh.gif

Do you mean the car drove itself into a tree or was your Mum in it? That would have been a very serious accident. It is amazing when companies won't take responsibilty. Hope all is okay now.

P.S to SueHM - I am being also monumentally slow this evening - just realised why you said I should keep away from the piano....... blink.gif

Living as a research fellow in America about 17 years ago I tried to save money a little bit by replacing the car battery myself when it needed it. The resulting electrical damage cost $750 dollars to put right!!

My mum thought she would go cheap on the airline flights to hong kong, so booked 7 tickets for my brother, sister and friends. Airline went bankrupt a month before they were due to fly. They brought last minute ones with BA. Cost? Too much smile.gif

I had some recompense this afternoon. I had to take evidence back to the supermarket that I had found a piece of plastic in my pizza. They filled in a form, put a big red sticker on the box to go back to the factory and I got a double refund yay.gif

My story is only a 'nearly' but it was close enough...

Today I was driving home from the computer-repair shop with my newly serviced PC when it fell off the back seat of the car with one of those sickening crunches.... ohmy.gif

Luckly just the casing broke and it still works smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

Reminds me of driving home with my eighteenth birthday cake - carefully constructed confection in the shape of a grand piano, complete with open lid, keyboard etc, balanced precariously on three legs. I braked sharply......you can guess the rest!

More good news this morning biggrin.gif

Nothing to pay for the damaged cleaner as this time we are covered by a guarantee policy.

Phew! rolleyes.gif
Morgan's Munchkin
I left my flute on a not too sturdy music stand once!! £90 later it was just about back to the right shape!!

Not £000s, but very expensive for what it was ..... sat at computer thinking how nice and quiet the dogs were being .... looked down and arm of my glasses was being enthusiastically chewed by one of the dogs ... £80 to get new arm attached. Expensive for a few minutes of peace and quiet ... rolleyes.gif

Also spent £130 on a heart-rate monitor thingy in the delusional belief that I would actually go running and it would matter what my heart rate was. Haven't used it not even ONCE ph34r.gif

I'm having a good day!!

That was okay then - still a shock though. I had a very unreliable car once. You could call it an expensive mistake - I bought it from a friend's mum for £1,000. It was the beginning of an adventure I'll never forget. It was so prone to breakdown I had the AA out 16 times in one year. Notably, the gear stick came off in my hand when I was driving - luckily not fast and on a quiet road, and the petrol tank leaked because rot had set in. To top it all I then had it stolen.

I got the car back but then it was written off because someone drove into the front of it when it was parked outside my house on an icy morning. Good timing perhaps blink.gif

someone turned round and punched my brother in the face at a gig once for no apparent reason... he had a denture untill the court proceedings finish, when we will hopefully be awarded the £1000+ for a vinear (sp?) and a dog ate it in Florida (he was staying with family{im off there tomorrow for a month!}), so we got a new one, claimed it off the insurance.
Last week, he lost it.
a VERY expensive mistake.

Mine doesn't- it has brake drums for the handbrake
-moral of the story- leave the car in gear with the steering pointing into the curb (just like the highway code suggests)

There was a Citroen in the 90's that had its handbrake on the front wheels, these were ven more prone to releasing since the front brakes tend to get hotter.

A trend I've seen more of recently is people waiting at junctions with the footbrake on - this tends to warp the brake discs.
