One of my pupils took Grade 2 last week and the examiner missed out the 'spot the difference' test. I will be interested to see the results - if she doesn't get full marks, should I appeal?

I took a grade 7 exam today and the examiner also missed out one of the aural tests - the 'name the cadence' test - yet asked the previous candidate all four questions. I'm not sure if it is unusual or standard practice to omit certain tests.

Are you positive it was missed out? Presumably you're relying on the report of the presumably quite inexperienced, possibly young, probably nervous candidate. Is it possible the question was just asked in a different way to how you had practised it with your pupil and they didn't realise? Check the mark sheet to see whether it refers to all four sections of the aural tests before you take it any further.

I am positive it was missed out. Mum is a music teacher-walls were quite thin so she could hear all that was going on!

Aural is marked as a whole and not in individual sections so as long as everything that WAS tested was ok it shouldn't make any difference. I think you'd only notice a problem if the mark sheet referred to a section not being answered.

I'd understood from a post some time back that you have to be given full marks for omitted sections?

I will report back when I have mark sheet.

Do you think that applies for diplomas? I hope they forget to give me the quick study then laugh.gif

Hope your pupil has done well Hotair xx
