I don't know if it goes here or not.
Basically I have a hearing problem. " High frequency permanent sensorineural hear loss, mild on the left, moderate on right "
But I absolutely HATE aural. I love all aspect of playing and sight reading and the scales playing.
My piano teacher came to the conclusion of,
- I really just don't care.
- I should be put down as special needs in an exam.
But then I feel like I'm cheating . and I dont' know I just don't want to be put down as special need and I have no idea how to tell her, I don't want to be put down as special needs.
This has NEVER really affected my aural or playing before. I can hear fine and I can play fine. I just can't sing and don't like singing nor can I sing to a note that she plays. . I really have no idea what to do =/

If the hearing isn't preventing you from hearing the notes you may need to begin by pitch matching to a voice rather than to an instrument.
Start with one note. Can you hear when you don't get the right note or do you need to be told?
Before you sing a note back think it in your head... listen, think, sing...... it can help.

Hi Baby Banana.
I am not really VERY old, but old enough to be your Mom.
I am also deaf. Moderate in both ears. I wear hearing aids, digital ones. From the age of 28.
I do the normal aural tests, but am put in as special needs, which means I get an extra playing of the bits you have to sing back etc, and an extra few minutes for the exam. This allows for the inevitable" pardons" and "could you say that again" please.
IT IS NOT CHEATING. You have a disability. Fair and square. It makes for a more level playing field.
DOn't feel guilty and don't stop playing.
PM me if you need to,
Beverley.

I have had moderate hearing loss in both ears since birth. I do not put in for special needs.
My ear specialist said that it does not affect my day to day life other than wearing hearing aids permanently.
For me it is a case of I find Aural a waste of time in violin exams and however hard I try end up rubbish at them but excellent at all playing aspects of violining.
