Replies on this thread look promising, the applications/payments are gradually coming in, and there's plenty of publicity out there/about to be out there.

It promises to be a fun day. Please come. biggrin.gif

Considering it's very much holiday season at the moment, it's been a promising start with applications. smile.gif

Hi barry-clari

I'm an oboist, I've taken and passed my Grade 1 and am working towards my Grade 3 for November so I'm hoping I can sneak in as being nearly grade 3 tongue.gif

Let me know if this is a problem though

I've printed off the form - we were going to combine this with the sax day, but I see that the event is primarily for players of instruments other than the piano sad.gif

Would I get to play, or is the event only suitable for the sax and clarinet playing half of our double act?

It's an orchestral playday Chris, and is primarily aimed at woodwind/strings/brass/percussion instruments, rather than piano. Having said that, there is a piano in the venue, and some (not all) of the music I'll have will have a piano part, and you're most welcome to play the piano part for those pieces.

Thanks Barry - I'm not sure if we're going to the Eccles Play Day, but I think we'll see you at the Saxophone Day. biggrin.gif

Sbhoa and I went to see the outside of the venue today and got a guided tour biggrin.gif

I've never been in the upstairs room until today (it's where the examiner usually is) and it's really much bigger than I thought. I only noticed today as my more experienced friend picked up on it instantly.

We also went to look at places to eat if anyone fancies a meal at the end of the day. We went in 3 pubs before we found lunch. There is one just across the road that has a restaurant at the back which we could have to ourselves. Just got to try eating there first.

The day promises to be really good so get those application forms in. Found out today that the Liverpool train actually stops at Eccles and the staiton is just over the bridge (a couple of minutes walk).

Three more applications have arrived in the b-c PO Box (thanks rachi, tooty and an oboist I can't work the forum ID out of). woot.gif

This means we've hit double figures! yay.gif

Hello to all going to the playday.
I'm looking forward to the day, but I feel a bit nervous without seeing what we are playing in advance!
Go easy on this newbie.

Don't worry. Barry is very good at choosing the right sort of music for these events. There will be plenty that you can manage.

A lot of the local orchestras haven't had their promotional leaflets yet Babybird2, so hopefully we'll get strings from that.

So for the time being I'll leave you on flute, with, in all probability, me sharing your stand when I'm not conducting (we are well off for clarinets, so I'll probably play flute). smile.gif
Babybird2
That's good, because I can actually play flute biggrin.gif

Hello! wave.gif

Could I ask anyone coming to Eccles to post on this thread when they've posted their application form to me, it'll enable me to process the applications rather quicker.

Thank you! smile.gif

(applications received so far : sbhoa, Babybird2, emsoboe, rachi, tooty, woodyBCR, Maisie, an oboist from the West Midlands whom I don't have a forum ID for, 2 non-forum members) smile.gif

Including those of you who have promised to send forms in over the next few days, we're up to a very encouraging 14 participants now. smile.gif

I'd still like to see a few more string players to keep phantasmagoriana company, and we're also a little sparse in the bass instrument department.

There's also a few of you who showed initial interest on the first Manchester thread, but haven't as yet written on this thread or contacted either notmusimum or myself as to whether you'd like to come. Hope some of you can make it too.

This is looking set to be a fabulous day. If you're free to come to sunny Eccles on Saturday 15th November, whatever orchestral instrument you play, do come along for what promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable day playing music. Hope to see lots of people there! smile.gif smile.gif
