So far, I am under the impression that everyone wants a job involving music of some description. I mean, the only job I want is to be in the police force! (dont laugh...)

just out of interest... what does "professional musician" mean? does that mean orchestral performer?

because I think that teachers are professional musicians...
they're musicians, i think we're all agreed... and they get paid for it... so aren't they professional?

and i guess that could apply to any career in music...

unless there's some job called "professional musician" which I have previously been made unaware of? if so, please enlighten me...

i voted for teacher by the way... but i want to do orchestral playing as well if i get good enough... i hope it's possible to do both! laugh.gif

I know this is probably a stupid question, but what exactly is a professional musician?

I voted concert performer. I dunno if i really want to do that or not but i'm considering a major in performance so it seemed fitting...

You haven't put in composer in that poll...because I really want to be one besides a performer biggrin.gif

a few stats for you:

28 people in my GCSE music class...
11 took AS music...
4 are taking A2 music... out of us four, three want to be musicians, and the other wants to work in musical theatre

most of the people who dropped music want to be lawyers or scientists. i think.

(something I noticed the other day - there are 3 sixth formers in the oboe section of my school orchestra and they're all taking maths, further maths and physics for a-level. isn't that weird?)
