Anything that's either organised by forumites, or is likely to be of interest to forumites is more than welcome to be on the calendar. smile.gif

I'll go add biggrin.gif

I've had some responses back about the possible date change for Leeds, but will await some more and will look further into recital opportunities before confirming the date.

I'm still not online at home - I can access the internet from my iPhone at home but it's very slow so I don't do it much. So I'll apologise in advance if I don't respond to all the messages I get, but I will take comments into account smile.gif

Re the date, although some people said they would have been able to come if the date was changed, most people who contacted me wanted to keep it the same, ie 30 May. Unfortunately that means that the recital can't go ahead as there's already something on at the venue which I was thinking of using on the Sunday. There'll be other occasions though smile.gif

May is not all that far away blink.gif biggrin.gif

(Still offline at home but Belkin assure me that the replacement modem is in their warehouse awaiting collection by the courier wink.gif)

February event update biggrin.gif

We've just had a very successful day of music at Teddington (thanks again katyjay/AmandaL!), and there's much more to come.

The York playday is on Saturday 21st February. Applications are still welcome from any orchestral instruments, details and the form are here.

The Fleet Flute Festival on Saturday 28th February is rapidly filling up : PM andante_in_c sooner rather than later!

Final event I want to mention is petrat's Anglesey forum concert on Saturday 21st March. Forms need to be with petrat by 18th February, the website is here.

That's it for now, next big update will be at the beginning of March, if there's any breaking news, I'll post it sooner. smile.gif

A couple of people have asked me when applications will be opened for Leeds. It's likely to be some time in March, so probably another month or so smile.gif

Not a Forums event, but this may be of interest to those forumites living within a resonable distance of Sunbury-on-Thames.

The Riverside Arts Centre is holding a sponsored event to raise money to buy a new Yamaha grand piano to replace the elderly and eccentric piano they have at the moment. As well as being the venue for many local groups the RAC is used as an AB examination centre for a wide area round about and currently hires an upright piano for each exam session, so it would be really good to have a brand new grand. No excuses about the piano not being very good for your exam!

The event is being held all day on Saturday 7 March and also on the evening of Sunday 8 March and includes music, drama and dance.

PM me for fuller details if you are interested.

A couple of recorder events in Surrey now on the calendar, with willobie directing the Guildford branch of the SRP on March 21st, and the Guildford SRP's annual playday in Effingham on 16th May. Thanks go to Suepea for the information. smile.gif

Also now on the calendar is the Forest of Dean Music Festival on July 4th/5th, for which you'll need to PM KixMusic for more details. smile.gif

A date for your diaries!

The first Taunton (Somerset) orchestral playday is confirmed for Saturday 3rd October 2009.

Particularly if you live in Bristol/Wiltshire/Somerset/Dorset/Devon, do try and pop this in your diaries. Would love to see a big crowd there.

Many thanks to flute diva for all her hard work and inspiration - without her, there'd be no event. smile.gif

It's March! First month of spring yay.gif

Time for your monthly update!

First of all, the next forum concert is in Anglesey on Saturday 21st March. Applications for this event are now closed, looking forward to seeing you all there!

Aeolienne is in concert on Saturday 7th March in Exeter. Full details are in the top post of this thread.

The next forum event for which applications are still open is in Eccles, Greater Manchester and is on Saturday 9th May. It's an orchestral playday, and I'll be taking forms in right up to the last minute. Any orchestral instrument, plus things like saxophones, from approx. grade 2-3 standard upwards most welcome. smile.gif The webpage is here.

There should be a good crop of forumites at the Thameside Clarinet Choir playday on Sunday 26th April, in Kingston. Full details are in the top post.

The next Players for Pleasure concert isn't all that far off, it's on Saturday 30th May in the usual venue, Yorkshire College of Music in Headingley. Skylark, as always, is your contact for this, and will inform you all when forms can be sent in.

Finally, there are at least two recitals planned for the summer, I shall keep the identity of the forumites involved under wraps for the time being. We all like surprises! biggrin.gif

Only a brief update for April, my head is still not all together...

Sadly, I can't justify travelling to Belfast in May, through funeral costs etc. , so that visit is off (August is still very much on though), and the Scottish forum event is also postponed to at least next year. I will be in Northern Ireland for a week though in August, and I'll post more details soon.

Also likely to be postponed is the London playday, but that should still happen in the autumn.

The Eccles orchestral playday on 9th May is still very much on, and I'll be collecting more forms after Easter, so keep sending them in!

Also, if you're a clari or sax player, there's going to be a lot of us forum people at the Colchester Single Reed day, at the Colchester Institute, on Sunday 17th May. Thread is in Viva Woodwind.

The only other things I'll mention for now are Bohemian's recital in London, on Sunday 7th June, at 3pm. There's a separate thread, suffice to say, a third of the tickets are already accounted for, so please apply/confirm if you're coming fairly soon!

Stalybridge Adult Learner applications (July 18th) will be open soon!

And finally, I'm sure skylark will welcome more applications for her event in Leeds on May 30th, again, there's a thread elsewhere.

Thank you all for your support, and your patience. smile.gif

May update biggrin.gif

First of all, there's still just time to get applications in for the Eccles playday this Saturday (9th May). I need to know if you're coming by Wednesday. If you don't think you'll be able to get a form in on time, let me know by Wednesday, and you can pay on the day.

Both the Colchester Single Reed Day (May 17th) and the Leeds Players for Pleasure concert (May 30th) are now closed for applications.

The Prom visit on August 30th is being booked very soon : please let me know as soon as you possibly can if you need tickets for this.

The Stalybridge Adult Learner's Concert on July 18th is still very much open for applications : closing date is June 20th.

The handbell playday in West Byfleet, Surrey on August 29th will open for applications this month. A new thread will be created : watch out for more details.

Finally : I'm already looking towards 2010. Won't reveal too much, but expect more of the old favourite events, plus hopefully two or three new venues in the UK : I'll reveal now that I'm looking towards the West Sussex/East Hampshire coastline for one of these new venues... biggrin.gif

June update, and there's lots to report on biggrin.gif

First, the Stalybridge Adult Learner's Concert on Saturday 18th July. The closing date is 20th June, but it's filled up to such an extent, that if you'd like to perform at this event, please check with sbhoa first. There will be a waiting list in operation as it's not unusual for one or two people to drop out but there are no guarantees that this will be the case.

Moving onto bohemian's recital, which is this Sunday - 7th June, at Schott and Co., Great Marlborough Street, London W1 (Oxford Circus tube). There are still spaces left, and tickets will be available on the door. If you are free this Sunday, at 3pm, do come along, bohemian is an amazing musician, and you won't regret coming.

Still on recitals, Katyjay, andante_in_c and I (barry-clari) will be performing at Christ Church, Fleet, Hampshire on Saturday 11th July, 7:30pm. If you're around, we'd love to see you there!

A couple of performance opportunities to finish with. The handbell day at St. John's Church, West Byfleet on Saturday 29th August is filling up nicely. There is no formal closing date, but when we've reached capacity (around 20 people) we will be closing applications, so if you want to get involved, apply soon to avoid disappointment!

There will be a forum concert in Chester on Saturday 19th September, organised by pianocrazy, with me doing a few bits and pieces. This will be a chance to perform solos, small group things, as well as performing in one or two larger ensembles. Applications will open later this month, and will close on 21st August. A new thread with all the details will appear at the same time. Hope to see a good number of you there. smile.gif

Oh, and don't forget the 2010 thread! If you have a good idea for a new event, or you'd like forum events to visit a particular part of the world, post there, or email or PM me, and we'll see what we can do. We can't guarantee we'll be able to fit all the ideas in, or cover every town and city in the UK that's suggested, but we'll do our best to cover as much as we can. smile.gif

A couple of small updates, namely adding Miss Ross' name to the performers in the forthcoming York recital on Saturday 14th November, and adding proposed timings to the forthcoming Taunton orchestral playday on Saturday 3rd October (12 noon- 5:30pm). smile.gif

2nd update in a day! The York Concert Band's gig in Tadcaster, on Saturday 26th September, featuring DawnF, is now on the calendar smile.gif

The Exhibition Road Music Day, in South Kensington, London, on Sunday 21st June, is now on the calendar, along with a website link. smile.gif

July update.

There's lots to mention.

First of all, forthcoming events.

Chester : This event is on Saturday 19th September. The website will be online imminently, but if you'd like an advance form, they are ready, and can be sent to you if you provide me with an email address. Closing date will be Saturday 22nd August. There will be opportunities to play solos and in ensembles. Time limit for solos and small ensembles will be c.5 minutes.

Salford bandstand concert : This is a possibility for Sunday 20th September. There's a separate thread in the events forum : if this event has enough initial interest, I'll launch it after Stalybridge.

Taunton : This event is on Saturday 3rd October, and is an orchestral playday, open to all orchestral instrumentalists, plus saxophonists, of grade 2 plus standard. Again, the website will be launched imminently, but the forms are ready, again, if you provide me with an email address, I'll send a form to you.

West Byfleet handbell day : There are approximately 7 spaces left for this, on Saturday 29th August, if you'd like to come along, the thread and website are in the separate thread here, and you'll be most welcome to come along.

Bohemian, mwl1, Miss Ross and barry-clari in concert in York: This is on Saturday 14th November, in the Friends Meeting House in York, 1-3pm, and I've just started a new thread. Hope to see lots of you there!

Stalybridge Adult Learner's Concert: This event, in a fortnight's time, is now closed for applications : look forward to seeing you all there!

Finally, the 2010 Calendar is close to being finalised. I'll be putting it online towards the end of the month, but for 2010, there will be events across the UK, both large and small...

12th/13th December - the opportunity to play at a Vintage Fair at St Gemma's Hospice in Leeds. The fair attracts around 800 people over the two days and they raised nearly £7000 last year.
