It depends which uni u want to go to. You can order a prospectus from some websites...they're free and full of info.

How difficult is it to be accepted into a music college? Im set on going to leeds college of music but I dont know what i'll do if i get rejected. You have to be at grade 5 standard, both theory and practical. By the time i leave school ill be grade 7 standard at least.
So, do u think ill have a good chance?

Hi, just wondering, do you need to have done grades on the piano, as well as your main instrument to be able to study music at Uni?

Hi Meg, yes at some Uni's its mandatory to play piano and with some evidence of an advanced standard. (e.g Durham Uni-requires grade 6 piano)

Hello, I am glad you are thinking about studying music at university, I am currently studying for a BMus and finding it really rewarding! If your main study instrument is not the piano, as in your case, then strictly speaking you do not need any formal piano qualifications. Although, be wary, this can vary between different institutions. Piano qualifications are very useful for approaching different aspects of the course, such as the study of harmony, counterpoint and transposition, it makes life easier to be able to 'bash' out your masterpiece to see what it sounds like. However, this is as easily accomplished on other instrements too.
Hope this helps, I would be interested to know how you get on!
Regards.

Glad to hear you are applying for music college, however, to do you not have to be grade 8 standard on your prnicpal instrument?

Hi! It is better not 2 set ur heart on just one place try and have a few places in mind so that if by any chance you do get rejected then you mite get acceptee somewhere else.If the standard is only grade 5 theory and practical and you should be on grade 7 when you apply then i cant see there being a major problem!!
Im not sayin ur wrong but is it definitely only grade 5 level u need coz most higher education places want u 2 have around grade 7/8?!
Anyway hope this helps!!!

Like missmusic says it depends on the uni, but also since most uni's do modula courses some just ask that you are grade 8 if you want to do a performance modual, so if your not fussed about that dnt worry about it.
