I hate trying to think of things to say in these "newbie" threads, but I'll try to come up with something interesting...
I'm Emma, and I live in Edinburgh, Scotland. Sadly, however, I'm not Scottish, but an English lass who fell in love with a gorgeous city. I'm proud of both my countries though. I love being English and I love living in Scotland. I'm fairly outgoing and happy in disposition, with a tendancy to get very excited about small and silly things!
Music-wise, I learned recorder at the age of 6 and haven't stopped playing something since. Recorder playing died a bit when I left primary school, as is so often the case. I've recently picked it up again though as part of a historical reconstruction society I'm part of to learn to play some of the dances.
The next adventure was into the world of violins. I started learning when I was ten, broke my first violin at 11 and then passed my Grade One. I failed the sightreading which has left me with a fear of that section in exams ever since.
Violin drove both myself and my parents to distraction so I switched to singing lessons at around 14. Pottered through grades 2, 3, 4 and 5 (all at merit level) and took my GCSE with Singing as my performance instrument. I think I was a bit mad, but I passed. Finished off with a good merit at G7 in my last year of school.
Since then I've been playing acoustic guitar, and continuing to mess around on the piano. I compose songs a little, and have played guitar at my church too.
Now, after four years away from ABRSM grades, I'm starting uni and going back to singing with the intention to get my Grade 8 (and I'm aiming to get my first distinction) and then my teaching diploma. Oh, and I'm taking an audition for a chance at a choral scholarship at a church on Monday...
Other than music, I love to write and have had an ongoing interest in theatre, alongside my historical reconstruction society which has got me into knitting and clothes-making (the latter being something I seem to have a talent for!).
So hi! I hope I didn't over-do it on the information, but I've had a rather hotch-potch musical history which takes some explaining!
