I want to take gr 8 cello some day...but does anybody know where you can get sight reading exercises for Gr 8? How did you prepare for sight reading in cello exams? I'm not too sure of my sight reading skills... sad.gif and the ABRSM doesn't seem to publish them like they do in piano.... huh.gif wink.gif

One of the best ways to learn sight reading on an orchestral instrument is in an orchestra, preferably a repertoire orchestra, i.e. one that doesn't perform in public but reads through a different piece every time it meets.

A few pointers (you can get them from a different shop: this is just the easiest way to show you the books...)

Grade 1-5 ABRSM Cello Sightreading

Grades 6-8 ABRSM Cello Sightreading

Guildhall Cello Sightreading: still good practice

Paul Harris's 'Improve Your Sightreading Cello grades 4 and 5' and Grades 1-3: Only upto grade 5, looks like nothing higher is out yet but will be good if you want some backwards practice.

You could also try reading the left hand of any piano music you have (and ignoring notes that are out of range).
