I don't think his music is very well known nowadays. He wrote a lot of film scores and they sometimes come up. In my amateur orchestra I have played his "Diversions on a Tune by Dr Arne" which I think he originally wrote for NYOS. (Apparently a little old lady in the audience came up to him afterwards and asked him if he was Dr Arne

) We really enjoyed playing it and it went down well with the punters.
I also heard and liked his sonata for violin and piano played at St Andrews where he was Master of Music. His comment afterwards: "I didn't remember a note of it, but I thought it was damned good!" I was a student there -- he was quite a character.
