I'm writing my A2 report, and I'm trying to say the relationship between keys and modulations, but I've completely forgotten the order!
Could someone tell me whether this is right, and fill in the gaps please!??
I: Tonic
II supertonic
III ?????!
IV sub dominant
V dominant
VI ????!
VII???!
I know, I think, that Sub mediant and mediant go in the III and VI places, but I'm not sure, and I don't have a clue what the seventh is! Can anyone help?
Thanks

working out the why behind these often helps
1 Tonic
2 Super Tonic (they couldn't think of anything else to cause it any suggestions?)
3 Mediant (The mediator half way between the tonic and dominant)
4 Sub dominant (sub = under ie sub marine therefore the dominant below the tonic, sub dominant)
5 Dominant (we all know the circle of fifths, think of dominatrix very domineering)
6 Sub mediant (half way between the tonic and sub dominant)
7 Leading Note (That will bring you back to doh, leading you back to the tonic)
8 Tonic

Just to confirm the accuracy of what Digby said!
Music's 'history of theory' is sometimes really useful.
