Babybird2

SueHM
One of the flutes looks interesting - wooden?
Babybird2
Yes it does smile.gif I'm amazed by the pianist, can't imagine my fingers moving that fast biggrin.gif
SueHM
It's the feats of memorisation that always amaze me!
Babybird2
Definitely biggrin.gif Quite enjoyed that smile.gif

She also doesn't look like she's turning 40 next year blink.gif
SueHM
Indeed - maybe that's what keeping a wolf rescue centre can do for your complexion?! Looking forward to another piece from her later..
Miss Ross
Can anyone tell me what the third piece Sue Perkins conducted was called? It was the second one she did with Lesley Garrett, I think. smile.gif
Tequila
Just started watching on 1.

With the odd exception, most women don't these days, at least, not if you look after your body and don't abuse it too much in your teens and twenties and even into your thirties. Not smoking helps - smoking adds 15 years onto to your body's real age! Excessive alcohol intake and/or binge drinking also accounts for a lot of damage. Regrettably, to an 18 year old, that advice would fall on deaf ears, but that immortal feeling we have in our youth rapidly disappears once you hit your 30s...

Kylie Minogue is another excellent example of the 21st Century 40 year old woman.

40 no longer infers haggered, frumpy or a twin set and pearls.
Babybird2
I didn't mean that all 40 year olds look haggered and frumpy biggrin.gif It's just that I've got more wrinkles than her and I'm 23! biggrin.gif

Rubbish speech by Sir Roger!

Edit : Improving a bit as he goes along..
BerkshireMum
Just wanted to thank everyone for letting me know that people could just turn up for the Last Night, which we hadn't realised. BerkshireSon went up to London today and despite not joining the queue until 4.20pm, was able to get into the Gallery! Received a very excited text at that point! biggrin.gif

I thought Bryn Terfel was magnificent, particularly in the Falstaff. What a great evening!
petrat
I really enjoyed it, and thought that Sir Roger took control rather well. Only slightly biased because Bryn Terfel was singing of course!
Was that Deborah singing away there during the anthem?

We were at the Proms in the Park at Belfast's City hall- right at the front. An excellent night. smile.gif
Goldfinch
Yes a good night but I also thought the conductor's speech was overlong and clunky. And just a little grumble on the choice of the Irish folk song- it was happening in Belfast not Dublin so why Molly Malone when Dublin isn't actually part of the U.K.? Why didn't they choose something more general like the gobsmackingly beautiful She Moves Through the Fair - or the Lark in the Clear Air. I thought picking a song specifically tied to Dublin might be a bit annoying for the people in the park in Belfast. Apart from that it was a good send off and yes Bryn was brill.

I enjoyed this concert very much...especially the Beethoven of course! Would love to be able to play like her. Apparently she sees music in colour! ohmy.gif And I love Big Bryn too! He really gets into the parts doesn't he?

And yes...I shouted (to myself and the cat!!) "There's Deborah!!!" party1.gif

Wish I'd been there. Have been to the concert in the Park on about five occassions. Would have loved to have seen Sue Perkins conducting. She did very well. smile.gif

Yh I watched almost every night!! I'm hoping to go next year. I thought the female pianist was amazing, the way she got so involved in Beethoven's piece. clarinet.gif

I waved to you, but you wouldn't even look my way!

I enjoyed the evening, especially Helene Grimaud, and Bryn was fantastic as Falstaff. I was disappointed that they didn't do the usual sea songs, though - I just love the cello solo in Tom Bowling.
