i have a question about the bowing for grade 8 scales - in the book i have it says the 2 octave scales (Eb - F#) should be played with 2 octaves to each bow when slurred - i.e. you go up in one bow and down in another.

However for the 3 octave scales (G - D) my book says u should play 3 octaves to a bow, BUT with a sepearate bow for the last note. I much prefer this 3 octave bowing as it means you can have a seperate bow for a strong last note

I was wondering if anyone knew the reasoning behind the 2 octave bowing?! when i play the 2 octave ones it just sounds like i ran out of bow on the last note!!

I have always taught the 2 octave slurred bowing with a seperate note at the end. I've never seen or heard it played the other way. I'll have to check my AB Scale book when I go into work though.
