Hi,
I have tried over the weekend (and on occassions in the past) to have a request played on the radio. I managed to get through this time and recorded my message..only to have my request *ignored* sad.gif

Have any of you had any luck either making a request or having a request played for you? smile.gif

I can't say I have. I find the bbc 3 breakfast crowd pretty good at responding to e-mails - including a couple of replies I received while the programme was still on the air - but that's not quite what you were asking, DC.

Rob Cowan played a recording of the Rotherhithe organ two days before I was due to play it in April this year - and a squeakily-excited e-mail from me got a very nice reply a few minutes later - wishing me luck.

I think that's about as near as I can get. blush.gif

Sorry you didn't get your request played, DC.

I have only tried once, and succeeded right away on Classic FM. It was for my daughter on her 29th birthday, which was the same day as my 58th (ie she was born on my 29th). Haven't tried since.
Thet played the first movement of the Dvorak Sonatina Op100, which we play together from time to time.

My mum phone Robbie Vincent once when he was playing Christmas Carols as requested by children. He wouldn't play Away in a Manger for me, because I was too shy to actually talk to him and it had to be the child who requested, not their parent smile.gif

Was it a national or local station? You may have more joy with a local station (eg Invicta) smile.gif

Slightly off-topic, I know, but interesting - I hope!

When Classic FM was quite new, I entered a 'phone quiz. The answer was the composer Cherubini, but I forget what the question was! Well, late at night, they declared the answer. And it went something like this...

"Well, folks, it's time to announce the winner of our 'phone-in quiz. The answer was Cherubini and, I must confess, it was rather an obscure question. So obscure that only two of our callers had the correct answer."

At this point my hopes were greatly raised (I think the prize was a collection of CDs I was keen on getting). Until they announced the winner.... It wasn't me! sad.gif

With classic fm (don't really listen that much to other things so can't comment on them ph34r.gif) its all about how good (or weird) your reason for wanting it played is - a few weeks back someone rang up and asked for something to honour the arrival of their new chicken blink.gif

If you make up something stupid, they'll probably play your piece wink.gif

Well, with everything that's gone on in the family lately, I requested Saint-Saens Symphony #3. It's my mums all time favourite. I suspect it's played too much to warrant a request... unsure.gif

Got my name mentioned on Radio 1 once along with some classmates as we were off on the school exchange to France, didn't get our request though as the girl who sent it in asked for Frankie goes to hollywood relax and the BBC had banned it, well it was mid 80's. Have tried a couple of times since on various stations and didn't get anywhere.

My Uncle was also a guest speaker on a radio 4 programme as well once.

As a teen sat in on several live broarcasts from Radio Manchester and got interviewed on air by a DJ of another local radio station. I can't say I've tried much for requests in recent years.

One way to be almost sure of having a request played is to try on of the Uni radio stations. Almost no-one listens to them, so on the rare occasions anyone actually calls in, it makes the budding DJ's day!

I managed a request on Classic Fm, (Sunday morning), day of Mrs Guilmant's 30th birthday. It all worked out rather well, as we were all in the car together, and I was Glad was played, and the request came on air just at the time we passed the pub I had arranged a surprise 30th Birthday Party for her.

I did also get a mention on Radio 5 in the traffic news. Basically, I left a message saying I was stuck in a long line of traffic on the M5 and desperate to get to choir practice on time. Not only did they mention the road accident up ahead, but also my name and estimated time of arrival at choir!

Oops, may have misled you there, it was actually about 5 years ago, not last Sunday.

Sorry.

I had a request played on Classic FM the only time I tried - it was the day before my grade 8 exam. I originally asked for Szymanowski Etude Op 4 no 3, but they'd never heard of it and it certainly wasn't on their playlist, so I asked for any of the Chopin Ballades (they played no 3).

It was for my wife, as a thank you for putting up with the hours and hours of practice, day after day, week after week . . . and then she missed it. We tried to listen to it online with the "listen again" facility but it doesn't work with Mac's (and we run a Mac!) so she never heard it. Can't blame Classic FM for that though!
