I have been playing French Horn for about 7 years on a Holton MC when I decided it was time for a change. I began looking at the Bach Mega Tone series that is popular in my school(A Marching Band In Texas) when I found that they dont make it for the French Horn. This is odd because I have held a French Horn Mega Tone in my hands. Anyway does anyone know an equivilant mouthpiece for the French Horn?

Thanks

I don't really know much about mouthpieces and I've never heard of 'mega tone' ones. I play on a Paxman 4B because that was the one they gace me when I first started. Most other horn players I know play a 4C. They're on the large side of average in terms of cup size and depth, and quite good all rounders. I'm moving to a 3B soon though.

are the mega tone mouthpieces the same as the heavy top mouthpieces?
i tried what i think was a heavy top mouthpiece, a paxman 4b with a screw solid gold top/rim bit to it (the guy was seriously rich!). it worked ok, and apparently you can play for a lot longer on it without any excess pressure or pain. i didnt try it for that long tho.

i play on a vincent bach 10, which is really quite big (paxman 4B is about the same as a bach 3), but it works for me! the nastiest mouthpieces are the ones that come with student model horns, the yamaha canadian brass one is awful! because of that mouthpiece i spent 6 months of nothing but buzzig and embouche exercises so beware! oh, and ive tried a plastic mouthpiece befreo, they feel warm straightaway, but the rim is stupidly thin and narrow and i prefer a flat rim contour.
