Yes, it's that time of year again, it's the Greenwich International Early Music Festival & Exhibition 2008 biggrin.gif

So, just thought I'd put a topic out here to see if anybody is going, when they are going, if they'd like to say hello, etc...

I've booked the Friday off work, so I will probably go then (rather than Sat or Sun)...assuming I go at all.
There's nothing I "need" to buy, but of course if I go along I am going to spend some money - I sincerely doubt I'll go along and just browse (after all, when you spend all that money on the train fare and exhibition entry, it seems silly to 'just' browse). Perhaps I'll try to restrict myself to sheet music and/or books and/or CDs. After all, the only likely instrument purchase would be wooden bass or bigger - neither of which I have any way of sneaking past the bank manager (my husband would be fine with it, but might make a comment about having these lovely instruments wub.gif but very rarely actually practising blush.gif and still not sorting out a teacher rolleyes.gif)

I think I'll be going on the Saturday. I have a shiny new credit card all ready for the fray biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
hello_cello
oooooh.
I might have to ask the parental units about this!

I'm going on the Sunday, as Friday and Saturday aren't possible for me, along with the usual assortment of pupils smile.gif
CJB
If I go it'll be on the Friday, but doubt I'll be able to get the day off work as I'm supposed to be running a training course that week. It is probably better for my bank balance if I don't go - hope all who do make it have fun and I look forward to hearing about the purchases.

Moving it a weekend forwards from the usual weekend means it clashes with the RNCM sax day and the forums Eccles playday, so unfortunately I won't be able to go at all this year - hope those of you who are going have a good time!
andante_in_c
I thought it was a weekend back ohmy.gif - it usually clashes with orchestra. For once I will be able to go, and will be going on the Saturday. smile.gif

I suspect Andante and KatyJay will be bad influences on each other.

Do you think they'll leave anything for the people who go on the Sunday? biggrin.gif

Depends if we can get it all home on the train...... laugh.gif

I don't need any more recorders myself, as I'm happy with my current ones, but I'm looking forward to helping a couple of pupils choose theirs! I go there mainly to browse through the music..... smile.gif

I'd love to go if I can make it...

For next year's calendar (2009), I'm intending to put a lot more events like this on it, so people can view the first post, and pick a selection of events, forum and non forum, to visit through the year.

I should be reasonably OK with single reed and flute events (though do send in suggestions), but if you know of any event, particularly on instruments I know comparatively little about (strings, piano, brass, double reeds) that forumites may be interested in attending, do let me know. smile.gif

The calendar is located in the forum events area. smile.gif

Actually we were quite restrained, as it turns out. Just a few bits of music each, and one recorder for me.

But we did see an excellent new instrument that's just coming into production - a Mollenhauer knick great bass. wub.gif

Rather think that I may join the waiting list for that one.....

Me too. wub.gif

I also discovered I could reach a baroque flute - just. I was working my way through the secondhand ones, and found a really nice one. Until I looked at the price tag - £900 was a bit much. sad.gif

Looks like you both had a good time. smile.gif

Hopefully next year the Eccles event/RNCM sax day won't clash with this. smile.gif

Did anyone else go and buy any goodies? biggrin.gif

I didn't go in the end - not least because on the morning of it, when I woke up it was 10.30am which would have shortened the day somewhat. So instead I caught up on some sleep, played with a spreadsheet for my husband, and saved lots of money...

But, I've just noticed that the new, revamped, improved Early Music Shop website is with us - now with online shopping...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhh!!!
tyrocks00
thank you for reminding me! i really wanna go
