Could anyone tell me what one can expect in a duet exam. I realise you play pieces from each section. But is there any other questions asked? Or are there any technical questions. I am taking my first duet exam this Nov. and my teacher is not sure herself what may have changed in the new syllabus shake-up.

I don't have recent first-hand experience of duet exams so am of limited use! I could not find a separate duet syllabus online. However general changes to syllabus for UK candidates mainly come into force next year (ie Jan 09).

I don't know if this is any help -

I assume this is an AB exam?

Yes. Sorry I should have made that clear, ABRSM . I looked on the link and it said for beginners the exam must be 12 mins. long. We have choosen two pieces from their(ABRSM) list but I'm not sure if it takes 12mins. When we next practice (tomorrow) I will need to time the pieces. I just wanted to know whether there was anything else that is expected of the applicants other than the pieces?

Best bet is to re read the syllabus.
Faling that you could email the board if the syllabus is unavailable or unclear.

Hi there Buzzweb - no there are no other requirements for the ensemble exams except ensuring that your programme timing is reasonably accurate. The pieces from two lists don't necessarily add up to the correct number of minutes! If you are presenting anything from off the syllabus you also need to make sure that you have written permission from the Board beforehand. .. I have done several ensemble exams as part of a piano duo, and enjoyed them all thoroughly!! Have fun... what is your programme?
