I'm just wondering..Do they have initial grade with associated board exams?

I've done my piano with trinity, and i jumped straight to grade 4 with my horn, so do they have initial grade or some alternative with the associated board, or is Grade 1 the earliest exammination?

I'm curious huh.gif

AB have a prep test, but it isn't a marked exam like TG Initial. Each candidate is given a certificate at the end of the exam with an encouraging report written on it.

And prep test is a test for children?

Or is it right to say a lot of adults do it as well?

Any age can do it but I don't know how many adults use prep test.

I discovered last year that many adults do use it!

It's a lot more relaxed than the actual exams, so adults can chat with the examiner and let them know all the reasons why they'd like to take some exams.

Due to the baby boom of the sixties, there are lots of parents who are now wanting to do all the things they couldn't when they were young.

Well that's quite interesting to know.

I have quite a few friends on AB exams (around grade 2-4) but none have done the prep test, so I was wondering. biggrin.gif

Good musicians (Grade 4-8) my age never want to talk about music. >.>

Yes, i'm in the saturday orchestra, which is pretty much only people who get SELB music education.

I have loads of friends who are into all the same stuff that i am, and are talented musicians.

Just nobody wants to talk music. >.>

I did the prep test when I first started to learn to play the piano age 57yrs I am still struggling on having got a merit with grade 1 and a pass for grade 2. I have given up exams as they are too stressful I am now 68yrs.
In the first year i did grade 1 2 3 theory and have also taken 4 and 5 I have learnt the work for grade 6 but a 3 hr. exam I feels is too much for me as my concentration lapses.
I have started on the learning for grade 7. I would really love to take grade 6 but .............
