Full Version: Christmas Carols For Trombone

My daughter said she wants to play Christmas carols on the trombone. I suggested she just use her cello Christmas carol book but when we looked at it, they are not that easy on the trombone. I could, of course, transpose them up a bit and into an easier key but thought if someone could suggest a book I would rather take the easy way out smile.gif

This maybe way off the way you or your daughter want to be playing.....but Christmas carols are a great way to start trying to play tunes by ear - the melodies are mostly quite simple anvery well known. You could help by working out an appropriate key and suggesting a starting note - or maybe a starting interval every phrase to begin with. I really wish someone had suggested the possibility of playing without dots to me when I was a lot younger - it would have made the last few years so much easier. And of course trombone is a fantastic jazz instrument - I saw a great jazz trombonist playing last night.

Does she read treble clef or bass clef?

There are 8 for free here and you can buy more, (over 30) if those are the right standard.

Thanks plonkee. That's just the sort of thing I was looking for smile.gif
