Pianist Yonty Solomon has passed away at the age of 71, though it was a few weeks ago, an obit has only just been in todays Guardian.
He was apparently born in S Africa of Lithuanian parents. He was a pupil of Myra Hess, and at one time was on the staff of the Royal College of Music. He bult his repertoire around Ravel (particularly 'Gaspard') Debussy, Chopin , and Spanish composers such as Granados and Albeniz.

I met Yonty at the Chethams Summer school and observed his teaching there many times too. I was fortunate enough to have a lesson with him at the 2007 summer school as well

Treasured memories, he was a wonderful man and an outstanding pianist and teacher
