I finished my grade 7 today and was presented with my grade 8 book! Unfortunately I was given the AB grade 8 (I do trinity for piano exams).

I had a look through though, even though i'm returning the book.
There's a piece with 10 PAGES! This is unreal.
It's Allegretto con espressione by Mendelssohn.

I had a look at the metronome mark (60) which is quite slow, so how long is the piece?

Just curious.

Also: i wish i was doing the beethoven sonata in C minor. It's beautiful. sad.gif

about 6/ 6 and a 1/2 minutes

why don't you just use AB for grade 8

I've always done it with trinity, and my piano teacher wants me to. :-) I'm completely fine with that.

However, i'm considering buying the AB book because i really love the beethoven piece.

Would you say the AB Grade 8 pieces are more difficult to learn?
Just a question, as I'm beginning to shy away from AB because the pieces appear quite daunting.

That Beethoven Op10 No 1 is about Grade 8 for all three movements, and a really good one to learn completely. (As is its companion Op 10 No2 which I played for ALCM in 1963)

I have looked at both syllabi, and dont think there much to choose between them, I know about half of each syllabus.

I've been looking at this for two of my grade 8 students. One is determined to do trinity, as that's what she's done all her singing exams through. However, the exercises look rather daunting, and the limited number of scales leads me to believe they will need to be performed perfectly, in which ever of the many ways specified! There is some duplication - the Bach Prelude and Fugue in F minor appears on both.

Also, at the risk of sounding old, I had to do a whole sonata when I did my grade 8 many moons ago! so don't complain about doing a movement!!! smile.gif

Hannah74: If it helps, my teacher is going to get me to do 'Doctor Gradus' (or something like that) out of grade 8 trinity. Although it may be one of the extra piece (see the back page in the pieces book). She says it's a fun one which she did in uni. :-)
