Hi,
I've just started to think about trying for the LTCL Recital diploma on the flute in the next year or so and I just want some advice about these two works.
I would really like to play Schubert's Introduction, Theme & Variations and Widor's Suite but I am concerned that stylistically these two are too similar. Do you think they would provide a varied enough programme or would I be marked down for it?
The specification states, "All diploma programmes must consist of a minimum of two works.
Your chosen programme should display a range of moods, styles and tempi. You should bear the artistic coherence of the programme in mind when selecting and/or proposing repertoire."
Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Hi Matt,
My LTCL syllabus is from around 2001, but back then the recital were to be choosen from three lists (one piece from each list). I see that now there are only suggested pieces, and they are not divided into separate lists anymore. In the former case you wouldn't have to worry about works being similar in style because they separated the pieces for you already. In the present case you need to use your discretion in chosing a balanced programme.
I know the Schubert but not the Widor so I cannot judge their similiarity. Have you considered throwing in another piece from baroque, classical or modern period? I would think you would like to show off your ability in performing pieces from different periods.
Sincerely,
