Full Version: Last Minute Questions For Dip Abrsm In Cello Performance

Hi all!
In 3 weeks I'll be sitting my dip abrsm (cello). I just have a few questions... firstly, about the quick study- how long (how many bars) approximately is it, and when they say they want evidence of a 'systematic approach', do they mean they want you to use the 5 minutes in a very structured way? How can you show this?!

Secondly- I'm not sure whether or not to include the cadenza in my concerto movement. Any opinions on this?

Last but not least-I'm appealing to any cellists here! What books did you find most helpful to read for the viva? (cello side)

Oh, and of course, how many rehearsals with the pianist are sufficient, assuming both players know their own part, and the others, well?

Thanks so much!!!

Hello,

For DipABRSM (for oboe and recorder anyway) the Quick Study should be about half a page long. Just try your best in playing the notes accurately and to follow the performance directions, and you should be ok.

Did the syllabus mention specifically whether you should play the cadenza? I always played mine.

I would think that you should have already rehearsed with your pianist! Unless you are a top-notch musician who knows your part and your pianist's part by heart, you need to get together with him/her now!

Good luck with your Dip!

Sincerely,
Wai Kit Leung
