Can anyone tell me should I use the pedal in Grade 5 (b:2 piano) piece?
L. Lévy Lied: no.13 from 'Enfantines', Op.30
Thanks a lot.

I didn't use the pedal for this piece and still got a good mark. Even though the notation of this piece is quite easy the key skill required is to bring out the melody line in which ever clef its in. I did look into using the pedal with my teacher but it just tended to blur everything, so in the end I didn't bother.

This piece depends mostly on achieving an expressive, singing finger-legato, but it can be enhanced by a bit of judicious pedalling here and there. You have to be really careful that it doesn't begin to sound smudgy though - if in doubt, leave it out!

It might be useful to use a little bit.

I didn't play this one for the exam (I did the Heller) but I think a bit of legato pedalling can make it sound more fluent - but not too much (pedal that is!)

I played that one for my exam last year, and i used a bit of pedal, just in between some of the notes but not too much.
What other pieces are you doing?

Natalie - I wouldn't use pedal in allegro molto - I didn't really think it suited the style of it
