Hi has anyone tried the Kawai PR 1 Piano recording system? It looks really good but I thought it was a little too pricey for myself. I was wondering if there is a similar model available but a cheaper price?

It looks like exactly what I have been looking for to record my piano music.

Wow! I think this is also what Susie was looking for.

And it is also what many singing classmates of my mum's age are looking for.

How much does it actually cost? CD recorder can't be cheap... About a thousand US dollars?

£599, according to a review in the latest edition of the 'Pianist' magazine, issue No. 45.

Thanks Oldnotes, yes that is where I saw it in the Pianist magazine and thought it was exactly what I wanted, however the price wasn't so I wondered if there is something similar that does that but costs a little cheaper.

I emailed my hubby the link as an idea for Christmas, he told me that I was having a laugh, oh well, a girl can but try! hehehe.

Probably except I have the most lovely acoustic piano that I bought in August and want to play that whilst I record - I am sure that there must be an equivalent to it somewhere. There again if it is new and they are the only ones, it probably wont take that long before others catch on with the idea and then hopefully the price should come down.

I really think that, for less than half the price, the Zoom H4, or the equivalent Edirol or Zoom H2, is the best bet. It does mean downloading to the computer and then burning a CD but, it also offers the possibility of editing using the free Audacity programme, or simply re-arranging the order of your pieces before burning your CD. I've been using mine for a little while now and am very pleased with it. I usually use mp3 quality but it has higher quality formats aswell (if only I could fathom them out). If you want to hear a sample of the H4 mp3 quality I can attach one to an email for you, if you email me first.

Hi Oldnotes, thanks for all that information. I have no problem with uploading to the PC and I have a CD burner. At the moment I have been recording with my camera, but I can only fit on one piece and then have to come and upload, also because it is a video, the files are so big and I can't send them to anyone to listen. If it was recorded on CD I thought that I could then upload to my PC from that so that I could send out music to my friends and family so they could hear how I sound. So in fact probably the recorder that is much cheaper and has to be uploaded to the PC, is probably a better bet.

I will pass the information on to my husband and if he feels we need to hear a sample I will get back to you, thank you for your kind offer.
