I think I was originally sitting next to you and we said hello, but 2nd row was just too daunting for me so I swapped to sit at the back. Maybe I will be braver next time

Glad you enjoyed it!

Just had to say I though it was an absolutly fantastic day. and I can't wait for the next one.

Thanks to Barri for swapping music with me and enabling me to move from a pack containing a mix of Clarinet 1&3 pieces to one that was Clarinet 2 - The first one would have been way to hard for me. ohmy.gif

I'm lucky enough to play in an orchestra, which I think has given me a bit more experience and meant I was reasonably happy with the amount of music I was able to play/keep up. I really like the woodwind grouping though, I think it gives a great sound. And in general as a group our sight reading was amazing!

For any Clarinettists that are interested I thought I'd mention that there is a solo version of Bach Goes to Town in 'Concert Repertoire for Clarinet' by Harris/Johnson.

Sorry I didn't get to meet you taxi driver - next time we'll have to make sure we know what people look like.
I also moved seats to sit next to Controller76 (on the conductors far right in the back row of Clarinets) - which made the day a lot more of a social event as well.

Hope your new mouthpiece is working out for you Peter. party1.gif

Was good to see you again smd smile.gif

Just to give you an idea, for clari 1, the first piece had an altissimo A in it, dynamic piano ohmy.gif ...

I was in the back row too - must have been at the other end - I knew one person from my City Lit class and felt more comfortable there. Also the saxaphones were so lovely and loud I hoped it would cover up my errors. Next time we must arrange to meet properly

I am trying to hold back the nerves for Saturday - I cannot now remember why I put myself in this position

I have to say that being in the "audience" was not the grim experience I expected!!! You all sounded great. I was really impressed, and I loved all the music, especially the James Rae "Toccata". I shall be very pleased to tag along next year. Daughter thinks I should brush up my flute playing skills and join in. However, Grade 5 in a year from more or less zero seems a bit ambitious... Anyway, I think I'd rather stick with recorder!

My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the day too.

Go for it Halka! As you can already read music you could get there by next year with some determination. biggrin.gif And if it takes longer there's always 2011.

Hello all! Halka's daughter here!
I had great fun at the playing day, the music was about the right standard, and the pieces were all nice.
It was fun to play in an all wind group, i'd never seen a saxophone so big!!
I'm glad you all had fun too smile.gif

Welcome to the forums Musical Maniac - Love your 'name'

Hello all,

Saturday was brilliant, I did struggle a little as I've never played in an orchestral group before, thanks smd for helping out and sitting next to me, I didn't feel quite so lost.
It was great to see so many from our forum there and welcome to the forum to Halka's daughter; MM.
I was just behind (at an angle) and i could see how well barry and Halka's daughter played... very impressive.
smd next to me was keeping up and also playing very well, I was like a fish out of water, but hopefully I will improve for next time.
Those bassoons were the best ever that deep sound was glorious, and my favourite was the Paul Harris piece about the aardvark, really great.
My new mouthpiece is really great and I am enjoying putting it through its paces and experimenting with different reed makes and strengths at the moment.

Speak again soon,

Regards, Peter.

Aww, thanks controller76 blush.gif

The aardvark story piece was good - fancy an aardvark wanting to be friends with ants rather than eat them laugh.gif
Musical Maniac

Thankyou smd smile.gif
Hello controller76!
I could see you and smd having alot of fun behind me, and it was all sounding very nice happy.gif
I have to agree, that the aardvark piece was one of my favourites too biggrin.gif
Hope to see you all soon,
MM
