Full Version: Good Beginner Books...?

I am desperately trying to self-teach because I realise that it is very useful to have piano-playing under one's belt when going into music teaching. I can't afford lessons at the moment so I was wondering if anyone knew of a good (but not childish tongue.gif ) beginner piano book? I'm doing quite well at the moment, but I'm not exactly starting from scratch, which would probably be more logical...

Stéphie.

Another book I often use with adults is this one - the Amazon link lets you look inside the book.

Ahhh I'll have to wait to get on that one because the school network doesn't let us on shopping sites dry.gif Thanks anyway, I'll have a look later smile.gif

How about 'It's never too late to learn piano' - Wedgwood? You would be able to work through it yourself having considerable musical experience already, although I would recommend a teacher to prevent any bad habits developing!

Hi Stephie

I starting learning piano as a second instrument a few months ago and use Michael Aaron's Adult Piano Course, although I'm having lessons with a teacher so I'm not sure how easy it would be to follow the book without a teacher. You might get some more ideas from this thread too.

Have fun! piano.gif

I discovered a book today called 'Starting Out - First Pieces for New Pianists' by John Kember. I've just spent an hour playing it through and reviewing. Simple but effective tunes and about Grade One by the end. Technically secure and great fun to play. Wonderful! smile.gif
