A thoroughly enjoyable day! biggrin.gif

Really enjoyed the masterclass. smile.gif Tim Lines gave me some very useful pointers, which I've taken on board *makes note of shiny new F# fingering* . It always good to get someone else's viewpoint on your playing, and I found it very enlightening. smile.gif

The ensemble stuff was all good fun too. Those of you who were there : should I take grade 8 in maracas? laugh.gif

Great to see Morgan's Munchkin, smd, clarinet_michelle and flutelady again, and great to see you for the first time david123. You all played very well. smile.gif

Next year's event is likely to be around about the same time (which would bring it to May 16th 2010, if exactly the same Sunday), if you are a clari or sax player, I'd put it in the diary now! biggrin.gif

To say I was inspired would be putting it mildly, I didn't expect to be playing on stage by the end of the day, but I was. I was a bit out of my depth with some of the notes (and the speed that they where played at), but even through I was petrified I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Barry, you where brilliant in the masterclass and I was enthralled, I think I have a long way to travel.

It was a long day, but a very enjoyable one, I will certainly be back next year.

I want also to thank Sue for all the encouragement she gave me.

To sum it up,If it hadn't been for you guy's on the forum, I would never have had the nerve to attend.
Thank you for all your support.

back to the day job biggrin.gif
smd
I was completly shattered by the time I got home, but it was a fab day.

The masterclasses were brilliant, and really helpful even though everyone was way better than me.

I'm looking forward to next year.

I must admit to opening a bottle of wine when I got home, and boring Caroline to death with the days events. biggrin.gif

Glad you had a great time - one year I won't have a prior engagement on the day of this event!

What is the shiny new F# fingering? I strongly believe you can never know enough alternative fingerings and always want more.
Morgan's Munchkin
Indeed it was a good day smile.gif

David - you did very well!! The pieces in the single reed choir certainly weren't easy!! I somehow ended up on Clarinet 2 and was terrified by the semi-quavers!!

Barry - definately take grade 8 maracas....that was classic!

I was a little jealous of the piece that the sax choir got to play compared to the clarinet choir one - but then again if we'd done that then me and Barry would have probably spent more time counting themes than actually playing it!

And I'm afraid I missed the masterclasses - I was trying out new clarinets smile.gif

Thank you

But I must admit it was all way above my lowly status. I missed out the bits I couldn't handle. ohmy.gif

After the novice performance I thought that was it, but the conductor yanked me out of my seat with the words "no excuses" and a big grin. I was also terrified, but it was nice to have been in the choir.
Must admit I felt really good when it was all over, and I leaned a lot.

Great day great people. biggrin.gif

You did fine David - I missed out the bits I couldn't play too - I think everyone does it tongue.gif

Glad you enjoyed the day smd : I saw you making copious notes in the masterclass - Tim Lines was rather good, wasn't he? biggrin.gif

Adding the right hand 'banana' key to basic F# fingering, and also the bottom fingering on the wfg.woodwind website, which I'd utterly forgotten about, though I *think* he recommended using the B key, not the Eb key. I'll have to go to my notes to check that, and I'll have a bit of a play around with my clari a little later. Not that I need any excuses to do that! biggrin.gif

Glad you had a good day, and you're quite right about the counting themes bit! laugh.gif

I got 2 DVDs through the post today from a wonderful lady and her husband. I got chatting to them at the Colchester meeting.
They had loads of photos of the event and put them to music, the second DVD was of all the music that we played.

Another birthday present biggrin.gif .

What nice people there are in this world.
