I'm completely fed up with not being able to practice properly at the moment! (while I'm playing my recorder in AGAIN dry.gif)

I have the aulos treble, but its holes are in completely different places to my mollenhauer, so practicing on that tends to make my playing worse rather than bette, so I was considering buying the yamaha treble in the hope that it might be a better match.

I'm sure I've seen a website with the measurements between its holes before, but I can't seem to find it again. Does anyone know of anything like it, or have a yamaha and enough time to measure its holes or compare it to a mollenhauer denner?

If not, I'll probably go and try and find one in town some time to compare it directly.

Thanks,

Sarah smile.gif

I have both recorders, Sarah and switch from one to the other without any difficulty. I think they're fairly similar. What would you like measured?

I have an old Dolmetsch plastic that is similar but I don't know about their newer designs. John, Saunders Recorders is the man to ask. He knows everything about recorders if you don't want a trip to your local shop.

If it's ok, could you measure:

hole 1-7, 6-7 and 1-2

The biggest problem with switching between my two at the moment is the thumb hole changes hugely. It's a bit difficult to measure, but a rough guess at how far the bottom of the thumb hole is above the top of hole 1 would be good. (For the aulos they're level, whereas for the mollenhauer they're about a centimetre apart ohmy.gif )

Petrat, I think it would be difficult to get hold of a dolmetch this side of christmas, whereas I could easily get a yamaha.

OK. Here goes:

Hole 1-7: 18.5 cm.

Hole 6-7: 3 cm

Hole 1-2: 3.2 cm.

As far as I can tell, the bottom of the thumbhole is in line with the top of hole 1.

Thanks smile.gif

That is almost identical to the aulos, so there's probably not much point getting one.

I'll stick to practicing my treble stuff on my sopranino and tenor for the mean time then. (that is honestly better than practicing on the aulos!)

It's interesting that I had never noticed the differences until you drew my attention to them. My LH is in quite a different position on the Yammy. I hold the Mollenhauer much more like I hold my flute. smile.gif

The only tone hole spacing chart I know is the Dolmetsch one (only for Dolmetsch instruments) at the bottom of this page
