Full Version: Allergic To Rosin?

Well I play violin for about an hour a day, and I always have this itchy red rash on my right hand that is sort of like blisters and then turns to white circles of like dead skin, it's really painful! Then I hadn't played for many reasons for about a month, and it cleared right up. Then last Sunday, I picked it up for a carol service, rosined my bow and played and woke up on Monday morning with the rash back in full force and more painful than ever.

Do you think this is to do with my rosin, like an allergy or something? I can't think of any other particular possible causes for it...

Merry Christmas everyone! party1.gif

Happy Christmas!

Some people are allergic to rosin. I had a pupil who suffered with it - can't remember now what her symptoms were, but she found this stuff (clarity rosin)? useful.

I'm not convinced that it works quite as well as 'normal' rosin, but she thought it was great.

I'm allergic to rosin, but managed to successfully play the violin (well....perhaps not that successfully, but that was nothing to do with the rosin!!). I just use a dust free rosin because that then stays on my violin and stops it all going over my hands (and face from using a chin rest). Since changing to the new rosin I've had no problems at all. It's more expenisve (about £10 a box), but lets face it....rosin lasts for ages....I'm still on my first box!
