Hello.

My Dad wants to learn how to play the piano. I'm interested in what books you'd recommend for a beginner adult learner, which will include an introduction to notation. I'd welcome any ideas; it's hard to know where to start! Thank you very much.

It is an old fashioned book but so many of my students of all ages love it. John Schaum Piano Course red book A.

Have to say, this is what I started with and I think it was great!

The Classic Piano Course, by Carol Barrett.

Though it moves quite quickly, so something like the Schaum book can help once you have got past the absolute beginners stuff.
