Have I made a good purchase here? I've used them before without fault and most people have said they're good, but what do you think?

The shure Sm58 is quite possibly the best budget vocal microphone you can buy. While not to the same standard as the far better SM58beta, or a good compressor mic, it's very good value, since I'll assume you will have got it second hand and paid about £60?

In my view yes. I had to refresh my memory about this particular mike but it gives a lovely vocal sound, not too hissy at the top and boy, it's rugged.

No it was a real question, how one would be able to sing over two 750w amplifiers, 6 speakers playing with a rock backing is absolutely beyond me...it just came across to me as slightly patronising, thus the slight dig but genuine question none-the-less.

Glad thats you and not me!
But to the original thread, SM-58 is a good buy, well I say that because it is the only one that hasn't broken completely (or broken down at some point) in our music department!

it doesn't really matter....
it's just that the director of muisc in my school went to RCM, my singing teacher to RNCM and my piano teacher went to Germany instead....i think teachers who teach other instruments went to either Guildhall or Trinity.... most of them can't handle equipment (except their own instrument) properly...

they're still musicians... jazz and rock singers also use them, and jazz is considered a sophisticated form of music insomuch as the ABRSM has dedicated a forum to it...
I personally like a lot of pop music as well as other forms of music.

i'm sorry guys... i don't mean that... the reason i don't really like pop music is due to the influence in hong kong....i came from hong kong...though i study in a private convent school in england.... those hong kong pop-singers or ocmposers....merely claim to have talent....but in fact they produce worst music ever.... sometimes they regard themselves as musicians or artists.... which makes me really cross.... as they have no "right" to claim those titles....they are famous because of their look...not their talent.... some pop stars or singers are really talented...but not as good looking....they kind of get "ignored".....

how about muse? its basically baroque on guitar and keyboard. and the bass lines are gorgeous.
seriously tho, its totally fine if you dont like pop liebe_klavier, everyone has freedom of what they want to listen to.
just remember to be open minded. its best to judge each band/artist or piece of music/song individually rather than by genre.

If you're talking about Muse there... they're a band rather than a work! Don't worry, you weren't to know. Try renting one of their CDs from a library - if you don't like it, you can give it back and pretend it never happened. But you might be spellbound, like I was.

The thing I think we all need to bear in mind is that all music is inspired to some extent by the previous generation's music. So pop music has its influences from "classical" music, just as you can see the similarities between Baroque and Classical music, or Romantic and 20th century music.
This is why I love all music. But my favourites are the native music of any countries, and the Renaissance plainsongs, because they are 100% original. Almost
