Hi all,

I was wondering what is the best way of puttin a complete new set of strings on, or would it be best to leave it the luthier. Ive changed single strings before but not a complete set.

Thanks in advance!

Just change one at a time as you would normally but make sure you never take off more than 1 string at a time or the bridge will either fall over or cause damage to the varnish depending on which strings come off! It really is as simple as doing 4 regular string changes one after the other. And you have to get each new string up to normal tension before changing the next one. Be careful the bridge doesn't bend towards the fingerboard with so much tuning up though. Take the opportunity to clean the fingerboard, top of tailpiece and all those little areas that are hard to get to with strings on while you're at it.

Thanks will get on with that, by normal tension do u mean tuned or just have tension in it?

Tuned up to normal pitch, not just a bit tight. Give it a stretch to make sure it will stay roughly at the right tension while you change the others. The bridge is under a lot of pressure and you're trying to minimise how much it changes by normalising one string at a time. If that makes sense. I mean it's not vital for each string to be exactly at A=440 before moving on but not a bad idea if you're a bit worried about doing it for the first time smile.gif Just go for it.

Thanks, should be an interesting afternoon then.
