hi there,as a total beginner 60years of age, ihave noticed that there are differant types of chords and playing methods for piano & keyboards.should i try to learn them both together or master one first and if so which should i try to learn first.piano or keyboard
hello_cello
i would deffinatly go for piano, as piano can be used on a keybaord/digital piano, aswell as on an acoustic

It depends on what sort of things you want to play.
Are you interested in learning all that a keyboard can do? As a pianist I once started to do some keyboard but never really had enough interest to spend the time getting to grips with all the 'fancy' stuff. Basic chords to a melody where everything is set out in a book is not too difficult for me.
In some ways I think that it's a little easier to move from piano to keyboard than the other way.
Apart form all the obvious differences the basic playing technique is different too.

Hello Arty, welcome to the forums.

To some extent it may depend on what you have / intend to have available to practise on.
Keyboards vary enormously, and some of the more basic ones are not really suitable for learning piano-type playing on. If you already have an instrument it may point you in one direction or another.

(edit - sorry - have just read the title of your thread properly ! and realise you already have a Yamaha. However, I'm not familiar with this model, - I will look online to see if I can find something of the spec).

I have an information sheet which I give to new students - about choice of practice instrument. You could pm me if you think it might be useful, and I'll send you a copy.

Piano, piano, piano!!!!!!!! Learn the chords as if playing the piano and these can be used on a keyboard. It does not work the other way around nearly so easily.
