I'm just starting to learn this piece and am a bit confused on how to play all the notes and with which hands/fingers beyond bar 26. Are there any playing technique tips anywhere ?

Hello! I just had a quick play through this and I was thinking how I would approach it if I was learning for an exam....

Firstly I would listen to a recording of it (youtube it!)

Secondly, I wouldn't be trying to play my hands together yet on this piece, as there is too much going on!

The right hand, you have to bring the tune out (where the beams are up) and the beams down notes are still to be played with your right hand but are part of the left hand accompaniment and should not be brought out as part of the tune.

Perhaps begin by playing the tune all the way through - when you know it really well, add the rest of the right hand notes concentrating on bringing out the melody. The rest should come quite easily after that.

As for technique - playing more Mendelssohn will give you more practice of these techniques... - if you have the whole of lieder ohne worte then No. 1 from book 1 and No. 2 from book 3 uses the same techniques - practice makes perfect!
