Full Version: Musical Theatre Songs For Three Girls?

Can anyone recommend musical theatre songs for three girls? In the choir, we're two altos and a soprano, but to be honest, we're all really kind of mezzos. I'd prefer something that doesn't involve too much acting, since I personally am terrible at it.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm drawing a total blank to be honest!

Uptempo/Character numbers:
"Chin up, ladies" from Milk & Honey, or "Tea party Trio" from Dear World, both by J. Herman.
Then have a look at the "Dreamgirls" score (many know the film, too few know that it's already been on Broadway in the 80s). The title track "Dreamgirls" or "Move" would be good.
"Get a load of that" from Street Scene (K. Weill)
"There's gotta be something better" from Sweet Charity.
"The glamorous life" and "Perpetual anticipation" from A little night music or "You could drive a person crazy" from Company, both Sondheim.
Of course "Matchmaker" from Fiddler on the roof.
If at least one of you has good high notes, "Sing for your supper" from The Boys from Syracuse (Rodgers/Hammerstein).
"There goes the Ballgame" from The world goes 'round (Kander/Ebb).

Ballads:
"At the Ballett" from A Chorus Line
"The Drive In" from Nunsense
"What happended to the old days" from Rink (Kander/Ebb)
"I want it all" from Baby (Maltby/Shire)
"You oughta be here with me" from Big River (R. Miller)
"A lovely night" from Cinderella (Rodgers/Hammerstein)
"Moon in my window" from Do I hear a waltz? (Rodgers/Sondheim)

The opening number in a Little Shop of Horrors is for three girl singers in harmony; the same for the opening of Bugsy Malone though I don't think that's in harmony.

Thanks! Can't do Little Shop of Horrors since the local school did the show at Christmas (it's a small enough town that lots of people will go to both things), but Bugy Malone is worth exploring. smile.gif

Ah thanks! Haven't heard any of these, except the Sweet Charity and Fiddler on the Roof ones. I'll have a listen and look for the sheet music when I go into town.

Other suggestions.
Little Mermaids She's in love, Witches of Eastwick might have something.
There is also a lovely one by Kander and Ebb stuff, it's called the There goes the Ball Game, really lovely close harmony, I think it's from New York New York.

There are quite a lot of popular songs scored for SSA... Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel is a fave and also Adiemus by Karl Jenkins... I know these aren't from musicals but they're some of my faves lol

I've seen I Feel Pretty from West Side story as an SSA as well...

Three Little Maids from School ?

Three girls from my college did I beautiful trio in a concert a year or so back...I'm sure it was from a well known musical, but for the life of me I cannot think what it was! I'll try and investigate....sorry, just realised that's not very helpful!!

Thanks everyone! I'e bought some Witches of Eastwick music, cause I noticed quite a few possibilities with that, and also some Big River music! Hopefully I'll find something in that lot!
