hurrah.gif Good! Personally, I prefer the cheese idea. In my very traditional tastes opinion, it has much more style and is much nicer to look at than a lot of 'out of context' studies. I often find those so gruesome that I wish I'd never seen them! sad.gif I prefer art for prettiness, not shock value. Yes, I'm old-fashioned, but there you have it! tongue.gif I still love the carrot! clap.gif

I was thinking of suspending him in a fish-tank full of water and video'ing him un-glue and spring apart (hopefully with the strings rusting too), and then show the video as a loop installation.

LOL!

don't do it to Agapanthus but buy a mega cheap violin i mean real cheap and do it with that, it'd be so interesting! Or even better do it with one of those coloured violins and the water would gradually turn the colour of the violin......

I'm really enjoying my viola playing (and it's staying in tune when I can actually get it in tune) laugh.gif ph34r.gif

My teacher naughtily ( laugh.gif ) gave me the CD of Grade 3 viola pieces and I've already picked out three I like while listening to it in the car.... rolleyes.gif ph34r.gif

BUT.. I did play Martha for an hour yesterday and gave Agapanthus the day off biggrin.gif

I've noticed I'm playing far more now these days which is wonderful because I'd really become stale and wasn't playing much at all.

Viola exams..... hmmmmmmmmmm ph34r.gif I was hoping to do Grade 4 violin in June.. could I take Grad 3 Viola on the same day ohmy.gif blush.gif laugh.gif

*is tempted a little bit to do her grade 8 viola*

Had 3 hours of viola sectionals yesterday which was pretty intense when there are only 4 of us.

lottie we could do a viola chellenge together, you go in for grade 3, I'll go in for grade 8. what do you think?

I couldn't do it anyway cause my teacher wants me to do my grade 8 violin in the summer ohmy.gif I really don't think i'll end up doing it but i'll certainly work smile.gif

If you do Trinity exams you have the option of doing one piece on the viola if you do the violin exam at the higher grades (and vice versa) .
Don't shoot me down in flames on an ABRSM forum but their repertoire choices are rather good too at the moment..... and you don't have to do so many scales.....

Ok, I think I'm going to do it. Seriously. Lottie are you in?

Pieces:
A - Bach prelude from suite 3
B - Glazunov elegie
C - undecided, opinions welcome.

Scales - exactly the same as violin gr8 except a 5th lower.
Aural - Always a weak point but I'll domy best.
SR - Not too bad.

Do you think I can do it?

I'll ask my teacher tomorrow night at my lesson but she did give me the CD of the pieces last week so she must know that I will probably want to do it... *will act all innocent and not manically driven like I usually do* laugh.gif

But so far I'm ....

A.. don't know.. although possibly Bach from the Anna Magdalena suite
B.. don't know
C.. 'Summertime'.. I heard it on the CD and it's gorgeous wub.gif

Scales.. I can play one. C. Am working on two octaves of G.
Aural.. okay because I took Grade 3 violin last year
Sight Reading.. non-existant laugh.gif - I only met the Alto cleff a couple of weeks ago so the SR is a bit dodgy blink.gif tongue.gif party1.gif

Just an update on Pan II:

I spoke to a very lovely man about 'set up' from The Violin Shop (Glasgow, 150 miles away but still the nearest specialist!). He thinks it will be possible to narrow Pan's neck by a few millimetres from mostly the fingerboard, but that it will make things more comfortable. He said they would also fit a bridge properly and check the soundpost (move or change it if necessary). And they're not too expensive! Hooray!

Even better, he said if we arrange it I could drop Pan off in the morning and they would do it in a day so I can pick him up and take him home in the car instead of posting him ( ohmy.gif ) biggrin.gif Yippee - a daytrip to a BIG city laugh.gif unsure.gif huh.gif

However - the strings I want cost £76 a set!!! Now I just need to raise some money laugh.gif

Anybody want to buy a painting of a violin???
