Hi all,
My name is Graeme. 44 years old and I live in Rochdale in Lancashire. Whilst all my life, I have loved music, I have just 2 weeks ago started to learn Piano.
My 15 year old son has played piano since he was 5 and also plays electric and classical guitars, ukelele and harmonica and any other instrument he can get his hands on. Whilst he is very good playing by ear, he has recently started to study for his grades on piano and classical guitar and has just passed with merit his music theory level 2.
So we have just traded in our very old upright piano for a much newer schimmel upright which looks and sounds amazing. This is what has inspired me to finally learn to play an instrument. My 12 year old daughter who has singing lessons has also started to learn piano.
So I have a piano teacher for 1/2 hour a week and I have set myself a target of being able to play some einaudi by the end of 2009 and then who knows where it will lead. Maybe I will one day see some of you in competitions ha ha!
Thanks for reading.

Hello and welcome Graeme.
Hope you continue to enjoy your piano. There's lots of people on the adult learner's forum and some of them are piano players as well - so you should be able to find plently on piano-related discussion.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I have already gathered from other forums that you either love or hate Einaudi. What is it that people don't like? I can see from my son playing that it is not as simple as it sounds. Not for me anyway. Still, I like to think it gives me something to aim for.
Cheers

It can be a bit monotonous but can also be relaxing.
Something that repetitive takes some playing if you aren't going to send everyone
round the bend to sleep.

...and in particular check out sbhoa's own event just down the road from you in Stalybridge on 18th July. It's always a very good event for adult learners, and the atmosphere is always very friendly.

Hi and welcome.
I'm quite new around here too and it would seem only about 10 miles down the road from you.
Hope you enjoy your piano playing, I have been playing for just about a year now and love it. Got my Grade 1 looming in March and a little apprehensive to say the least.

Good luck with that

You too might be interested in sbhoa's event I've posted about above. It comes highly recommended!

I don't love it or hate it - it has a certain simplistic charm and makes excellent background music, but it is rather repetetive...
