Hey guys smile.gif

Music prelim tomoro.
And i WAS totally prepared for it,
but i now have a blocked nose, basically the cold sad.gif
my singings gonna be mucked up and my teacher already said i sounded "horrific" TALKING not SINGING btw, and she said i shouldnt do any more tonight, but how am i supposed to walk in tomorrow and do the exam with no previous evening rehersals?

ive had to scrap Hero and go with i'd give my life for you because of the high notes.

I know im gonna get a rubbish mark and i really was hoping to get an A for the prelim, how can i still sing with the cold? is it possible?

Bad luck Laura, but....

Step one - be positive, colds always get worse if you feel low

Step Two - Breath in steam - bowl of hot water and a towel over your head

Step Three - Vicks vapour rub - in the steam if you like, on your pillow/chest and soles of your feet if not (I know soles of feet sounds mad but it makes a difference somehow - maybe it just warms you up.)

Step Four - Drink hot honey and lemon

Step five - Early night with a hot water bottle

Step Six - The examiner will probably still be able to tell how good you are regardless, let them know and do the best you can on the day.

Manuka honey is the best sort. Good luck

Good advice already, especially for the steam.

Remember that having a blocked nose should not affect your singing, as you generally don't use your nose space anyway - the only sounds to be affected will be N, NG and M if you're singing in English. The rest will sound exactly the same, if it's only your nose that's blocked.

If your vocal chords are all covered in muckiness too, then you have more of a problem. As long as it doesn't hurt to swallow and you don't feel scratching in the throat, though, there's nothing to stop you singing as normal - just make sure you do a nice stretchy warm up before hand - lots of NG sirening and rolled-r scales to get the chords stretching - it will probably take a little longer than normal to get going, but it will be fine.

Whatever you do, don't whisper in an attempt to save your voice - it's the worst thing you can do!
